Cal Newport is a full professor of computer science at Georgetown University, specializing in distributed algorithms and digital ethics. He is the author of eight books, including New York Times bestsellers like Deep Work and Digital Minimalism.

Calvin C. Newport grew up in Pennington, New Jersey, graduating from Hopewell Valley Central High School in 2000. He earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in 2004 and a Ph.D. in computer science from MIT in 2009. Newport joined Georgetown University as an assistant professor in 2011, gained tenure in 2017, and became a full professor in 2024. He is known for his books on productivity and digital ethics, including Deep Work and Digital Minimalism, which have sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
