About Larry David

Larry David - Biography

Larry David is an Emmy Award-winning American comedian, writer, actor, director, and producer best known for co-creating the iconic sitcom Seinfeld with Jerry Seinfeld and starring in HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm as a semi-fictionalized version of himself.

Larry David was born on July 2, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from the University of Maryland. He began his career pursuing stand-up comedy in the 1970s, taking odd jobs like cab driver, bra salesman, and chauffeur while performing in New York. In 1979, he moved to Los Angeles, joining ABC's sketch comedy show Fridays as a writer and performer, followed by a brief stint writing for Saturday Night Live in 1982. In 1989, Jerry Seinfeld recruited David to co-create and develop the NBC sitcom Seinfeld, where David served as head writer and executive producer for the first seven seasons until 1996, also making occasional on-screen appearances. He left to write and direct the 1998 film Sour Grapes, which was a critical and commercial failure. David married Laurie Lennard in 1993; they had two daughters and separated in 2007. David returned to write Seinfeld's 1998 finale and launched his HBO special Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm in 1999, leading to the long-running series Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000–2024), in which he stars as a version of himself in an improvisational format exploring social faux pas. He expanded into theater with his 2015 Broadway play Fish in the Dark, which he wrote and starred in, achieving a $13.5 million advance sale. David has also appeared in films like Woody Allen's Whatever Works (2009) and the HBO TV movie Clear History (2013), and made recurring Saturday Night Live guest spots impersonating Bernie Sanders.
