Sir Ernest Shackleton was an Anglo-Irish polar explorer best known for leading the British Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914–1916), which became legendary as a tale of remarkable survival and leadership.

Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton was an Anglo-Irish explorer educated at Dulwich College from 1887 to 1890. After his schooling, he entered the mercantile marine service in 1890 and became a sublieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve in 1901.
