Galileo Galilei
Father of Modern Science, Pioneer of Heliocentrism and Telescopic Astronomy
About Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei - Biography
Galileo Galilei was an Italian astronomer, physicist, and mathematician who improved the telescope and made groundbreaking observations supporting the heliocentric model. His advocacy for Copernican theory led to conflicts with the Catholic Church.
Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564, in Pisa, Italy. Initially studying medicine, he shifted to mathematics and physics, making significant contributions to the scientific method and observational astronomy. His improvements to the telescope allowed him to observe celestial phenomena that supported the heliocentric model, leading to conflicts with the Catholic Church. Despite being tried for heresy and placed under house arrest, Galileo continued his work, laying the foundations for modern physics and astronomy. He died on January 8, 1642, in Arcetri, Italy.
