Bari Weiss is an American opinion writer and media entrepreneur who founded The Free Press and became editor-in-chief of CBS News in 2025. She is known for her commentary on free speech, culture wars, and criticism of progressive campus politics.
Bari Weiss began her career in journalism after graduating from college and became known through roles at major national publications. Over time she gained prominence for critique of what she described as illiberal tendencies on the American left and for chronicling campus controversies. In 2020–2021, Weiss left traditional newsroom roles and launched an independent Substack newsletter that grew into The Free Press. In 2025, Paramount Skydance acquired The Free Press and hired Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News.
