David Meltzer - Biography

David Meltzer is an entrepreneur, investor, author and speaker best known as the co-founder of Sports 1 Marketing and for having served as CEO of Leigh Steinberg Sports & Entertainment. He is a best-selling author and a business coach who teaches mindset, habit formation and vision/strategy to leaders and teams.

After graduating from law school, Meltzer entered the emerging online/research technology space and achieved rapid sales success early in his career, reportedly becoming a millionaire within months of joining Westlaw/related online research work. He parlayed early technology and sales success into entrepreneurial ventures, and was involved in companies that were acquired by larger firms in the 1990s. Meltzer moved into the sports and entertainment industry and served as COO and later CEO of Leigh Steinberg Sports & Entertainment, the agency that inspired the film Jerry Maguire, where he managed athlete/entertainment relationships and large events. He later co-founded Sports 1 Marketing, a firm that leverages relationship capital around major sporting events and experiential marketing programs. Meltzer has publicly described significant setbacks including losing substantial assets and filing for bankruptcy at one point in his career; he cites that experience as formative in codifying the principles he now teaches about resilience, mindset, and rebuilding after failure. Today Meltzer is a prolific speaker, coach and author, leading coaching programs, media productions (including Entrepreneur digital shows), podcasts (The Playbook), and publishing books such as Connected to Goodness and Game-Time Decision Making while stating a mission to “empower over 1 billion people to be happy.” He holds leadership positions such as Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Institute and continues to appear at major business and motivational events.
