About Jay Shetty
Jay Shetty - Biography
Jay Shetty is a British-Indian author, podcaster, and digital content creator who built a global audience by adapting lessons from his years as a Vedic monk into practical advice on purpose, habits, and mental resilience. He hosts the podcast On Purpose, is a New York Times bestselling author of Think Like a Monk, and serves in corporate and brand roles including Chief Purpose Officer at Calm.
Jay Shetty was born on 6 September 1987 in London and studied at Cass Business School, earning a first-class honours degree before making an unconventional decision to live as a Vedic monk in India for approximately three years, an experience he credits with shaping his perspectives on purpose and mental discipline. After returning to London, Shetty worked in digital strategy at Accenture and coached executives on social media and personal branding while gradually moving into public speaking and content creation. In 2016 Shetty began publishing videos on Facebook and YouTube; his content attracted Arianna Huffington’s attention and led to work producing videos for The Huffington Post, after which he focused on independent content that grew to billions of views and tens of millions of followers across platforms. Shetty founded a media company (Icon Media), launched the podcast On Purpose in 2019 (which achieved very large download numbers and high rankings in health/wellness categories), published Think Like a Monk (a New York Times bestseller), co-founded tea brand Sama/Juni Tea with his wife, joined Calm as Chief Purpose Officer, and is part of the ownership group of Angel City FC in the NWSL.
