Matthew McConaughey

Matthew David McConaughey was born on November 4, 1969, in Uvalde, Texas, and grew up in Longview, Texas, with two older brothers. His father, James Donald McConaughey, worked as an oil pipe supplier, while his mother, Mary Kathleen McCabe, was a schoolteacher. At Longview High School, he excelled as an athlete in golf, tennis, football, and track and field, was voted 'Most Handsome Student,' and participated in student council and school plays, sparking his interest in acting. McConaughey attended the University of Texas at Austin, from which he graduated. His acting career launched with a major break in the 1993 film Dazed and Confused, followed by roles in A Time to Kill (1996), Contact (1997), and Amistad (1997). He transitioned through comedies like EdTV (1999), The Wedding Planner (2001), and Failure to Launch (2006), establishing a 'rom-com' phase before pivoting to more serious work.
