About Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar - Biography
Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer in both Test and ODI cricket, with a record 100 international centuries. He played 664 international matches for India, leading the team to the 2011 World Cup victory.
Sachin Tendulkar was born in Mumbai into a Maharashtrian family and showed prodigious talent early, making his Ranji Trophy debut at age 15 for Mumbai. He debuted in Test cricket against Pakistan in November 1989 at age 16, becoming India's youngest player, and in ODIs shortly after. His maiden Test century came in 1990 against England at Old Trafford, signaling his rise as a global star despite early challenges like a broken finger from Wasim Akram. Tendulkar's peak in the 1990s included iconic performances like the 'Desert Storm' centuries in Sharjah (1998) against Australia, helping India win the tournament, and aggressive batting against Shane Warne during India's 1998 Test series win over Australia. He evolved into a versatile player, contributing with part-time leg-spin bowling and occasional captaincy, though his leadership tenure was mixed. By the 2000s, he broke Brian Lara's Test run record in 2008 post-surgery and scored the first ODI double century in 2010. His career culminated in the 2011 World Cup win, where at 37 he was India's top scorer, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Tendulkar retired from ODIs in 2012 after his 100th century against Bangladesh and from Tests in 2013 at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium amid emotional tributes. He continued in the IPL with Mumbai Indians, winning the title in 2013, and was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2019. Beyond cricket, he has business interests and supports sustainability initiatives.
