Stan Lee, born Stanley Martin Lieber, transformed Marvel Comics from a struggling publisher into a dominant force in comics and entertainment through co-creating iconic characters like Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, the X-Men, and Daredevil.
Stan Lee was born Stanley Martin Lieber on December 28, 1922, in New York City to Romanian Jewish immigrant parents. After graduating high school at 16, he entered the comics industry in 1939 as an assistant at Timely Comics. During the 1940s, Lee co-created early heroes and served in the U.S. Army. In 1961, he created The Fantastic Four with Jack Kirby, launching Marvel's Silver Age. By the 1970s, Lee was Marvel's publisher and editorial director, expanding into film adaptations. He passed away in 2018, leaving a legacy of humanized superheroes.
