Robert Downey Jr. was born into a film family in New York City. He made his debut at age 5 in his father's film 'Pound' (1970). By his teens, he appeared in films like 'Weird Science' (1985) and 'Back to School' (1986), and joined 'Saturday Night Live' in 1985. His breakthrough came with 'The Pick-up Artist' (1987) and 'Less Than Zero' (1987). The 1990s and early 2000s were marked by severe substance abuse issues, resulting in multiple arrests and professional setbacks. After achieving sobriety in 2003, he rebuilt his career with roles in 'The Singing Detective' (2003), 'Good Night, and Good Luck' (2005), 'Zodiac' (2007), and 'Tropic Thunder' (2008). Downey achieved superstardom as Tony Stark/Iron Man in 'Iron Man' (2008), launching the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and starring in ten films through 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019). His portrayal of Lewis Strauss in 'Oppenheimer' (2023) won him Academy, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and other awards in 2024.
