About Thomas Frank
Thomas Frank - Biography
Thomas Frank is a Danish professional football manager who progressed from youth coaching and sport‑psychology study in Denmark to become head coach in England’s top flight. He is noted for player development, data‑informed coaching and emphasis on mental preparation and marginal gains in performance recovery.
Thomas Frank grew up in Denmark and began his coaching career in youth football while studying physical education and sport psychology; he earned a BA in Physical Education from the Copenhagen Institute of Sports Medicine and later studied sport psychology and coaching‑based leadership there (1999; 2002–05). Early roles included youth development positions in Danish clubs and education work, and a career crossroads nearly led him to leave coaching before accepting a full‑time talent development role at B93. Frank joined Brøndby IF’s coaching setup where his methodical, player‑centred approach and academic interest in psychology increased his profile as a developer of young players before moving to England in December 2016 to become assistant head coach at Brentford. At Brentford he became known as a bridge between players and staff, focusing on development plans, data and individual feedback loops. Promoted to Brentford’s head coach in October 2018, Frank led the club through promotion to the Premier League (ending a 74‑year absence from the top flight) and established Brentford as a competitive, analytically informed side renowned for recruitment, marginal gains and structured training. His managerial style emphasises relationships, clarity of role, psychological support and use of performance metrics. In 2024–2025 Frank moved to manage Tottenham Hotspur as their head coach, continuing his emphasis on player welfare, mental processing of success and failure, and data‑driven coaching while operating at the highest level of English football.
