About Alex Hormozi
Alex Hormozi - Biography
Alex Hormozi is a first-generation Iranian-American entrepreneur, investor, author, and philanthropist best known for founding Acquisition.com, a firm that invests in and scales high-cash-flow businesses. Starting with brick-and-mortar gyms in 2013, he expanded to six locations, turned around over 32 others, and launched Gym Launch, which scaled to thousands of locations before a $46.2M exit in 2021.
Alex Hormozi was born on August 18, 1988, in Towson, Maryland, as a first-generation Iranian-American. He attended Gilman School and graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in three years with a BS in Human & Organizational Development, focusing on Corporate Strategy. After college, he worked for two years as a management consultant at a boutique strategy firm, describing it as a 'soul-sucking job,' before leaving at age 24 to pursue entrepreneurship, initially trying multi-level marketing (MLM) and gym ownership amid early failures like sleeping on a friend's futon. In 2013, Hormozi launched his first brick-and-mortar gym business, scaling it to six locations within three years before selling them. He then spent two years turning around over 32 struggling brick-and-mortar businesses using his proven model. Transitioning to a licensing approach, he founded Gym Launch, which expanded to over 4,000 locations in four years by offering services on a performance basis—working for free until gyms profited. During this period, he also co-founded Prestige Labs (gym supplements) and ALAN (business software) with his wife Leila Hormozi. By 2020, Hormozi stepped back from CEO roles to focus on ownership and launched Acquisition.com, investing his wealth and expertise into asset-light, sales-driven businesses in e-commerce, SaaS, services, and more. Over four years prior, he and Leila bootstrapped three companies to $120M+ in sales across four industries without external funding. He has scaled and exited seven companies total, with his largest being a majority stake in Gym Launch sold for $46.2M in 2021. Hormozi is also an author of books like $100M Offers and $100M Leads, emphasizing customer acquisition, offers, and scaling. Hormozi donates time to education access and entrepreneurship in underprivileged communities, drawing from his expertise in sales, revenue growth, and problem-solving.
