About Jeff Weiner
Jeff Weiner - Biography
Jeffrey Weiner is an American businessman best known for serving as CEO of LinkedIn from 2009 to 2020, where he drove massive growth and its $26 billion acquisition by Microsoft in 2016. He joined LinkedIn as interim president in 2008 and later became executive chairman in 2020 to focus on economic opportunity initiatives. Prior roles include executive positions at Yahoo! and Warner Bros., showcasing his expertise in tech operations and product development.
Jeffrey Weiner began his career in the entertainment industry, joining Warner Bros. in 1994 shortly after college. As Vice President of Warner Bros. Online, he authored a pivotal report advocating for the company's online expansion, which was well-received despite his junior status. This early vision for digital transformation marked the start of his trajectory in tech leadership. In 2001, Weiner followed Warner Bros. executive Terry Semel to Yahoo!, where he spent over seven years in escalating roles, including Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, Senior Vice President of Search and Marketplace, and Executive Vice President of the Network Division. He led a team of over 3,000 employees, oversaw products for 500 million users, and directed acquisitions like Inktomi, AltaVista, and FAST, while advancing Yahoo! Search technology. After leaving Yahoo! in 2008, he briefly served as Executive-in-Residence for venture firms Accel and Greylock Partners. Weiner joined LinkedIn on December 15, 2008, as Interim President, becoming CEO in 2009 under founder Reid Hoffman. He pioneered the BizOps team to streamline operations and expanded LinkedIn globally, growing membership to over 175 million by 2012, facilitating acquisitions like Rapportive and SlideShare, and leading its 2011 IPO. In 2016, he orchestrated LinkedIn's $26 billion acquisition by Microsoft. On February 5, 2020, Weiner stepped down as CEO to become Executive Chairman, naming Ryan Roslansky as successor to pursue closing the 'network gap' and economic opportunity for the global workforce. He is also a founding partner at Next Play venture capital and serves on nonprofit boards like DonorsChoose.org and Malaria No More.
